 The purpose of the study is to substantiate a set of theoretical provisions, scientific and methodological approaches to the formation of the institutional environment of post- and neoindustrial modernization of the economy of old industrial regions of Ukraine and the formation of regional innovation ecosystems. The main result of the study is the conceptual provisions for the formation of the institutional environment of modernization of the economy of old industrial regions, based on a set of theoretical provisions, scientific and methodological approaches, economic and mathematical models and practical recommendations, and provide favorable institutional conditions and regimes of structural and technological changes identify and stimulate the use of available opportunities and prospects for development and limit the negative impact of geopolitical, socio-economic and environmental challenges of today.
