Based on the experience of attribution and examination of the retrospective book, art, music, magazine, newspaper, historical collections, and historical collections from the specialized historical and cultural departments of the largest library of Ukraine, a scientifically substantiated methodology of attribution and examination of different types of distinctive objects (defective copies, publishing forgeries, disguised editions, variants of editions of Cyrillic old prints, engraved portraits, postcards of the late 19th – the first third of the 20th century, etc), has been developed. New knowledge from the history of books and book culture was gained by revealing, due to the attribution, publishing forgeries, unknown in the bibliography publications, variants of old prints, etc. Terminological meanings of basic concepts, used for attribution and examination of book monuments, have been unified.
