The study involves modifying catalysts with additives of rare earth elements (REE: Y, La, Ce, etc.) with a controlled change in acid-base characteristics of the surface to accelerate the key stage (aldol condensation) of these processes. Modern physical and chemical methods will be used to characterize the catalyst samples. popup.description2 The purpose of the work is to increase the efficiency of catalysts based on Ca-P-oxide (hydroxyapatite) systems for heterogeneous-catalytic processes of the sequential conversion of ethanol with carbon chain elongation: ethanol→butan-1-ol→2-ethylhexan-1-ol (and their implementation in a flow mode). The research objects are Ca-P-oxide (hydroxyapatite) systems, in particular, those modified with compounds of rare earth elements (REE: Sc, Y, La). The research methods include a complex of physicochemical methods for studying catalysts and catalytic reactions: a kinetic one with chromatographic control, low-temperature ad(de)sorption of N2, XRD, and TPD-NH3/CO2. The influence of modifying additives of rare earth elements (REE: Sc, Y, La) on the physicochemical characteristics and catalytic properties of hydroxyapatite-based systems (HAp) for heterogeneous-catalytic processes of the sequential conversion of ethanol with carbon chain elongation: ethanol→butan-1-ol→2-ethylhexan-1-ol is examined. It is shown that in a number of Sc-, Y-, and La-containing hydroxyapatites, La-HAp is the most selective for 2-ethylhexan-1-ol and other C6+ oxygenates (up to 95%) in the gas-phase Guerbet condensation of butan-1-ol at 225℃, which may be due to an increase in the number of strong basic sites on the surface of La-Hap that contribute to the course of dehydrogenation and aldol condensation reactions, being key stages of the process. A hydroxyapatite catalyst, La-Hap, is proposed that provides the conversion of butan-1-ol to 2-ethylhexan-1-ol and other C6+ oxygenates with selectivity up to 90% and yield up to 25% at moderate temperatures (265℃) and a mass feed rate of the liquid reagent, Wm, of 0.4 g/(gcat·h).
