Usikov Institute for Radiophysics and Electronics NAS of Ukraine popup.description1 The purpose of the project is to study theoretically Josephson plasma waves localized on a layered superconductor in the presence of external static magnetic field, as well as the effects associated with their excitation and propagation. Because of the peculiar nonlinear structure of the layered superconductors, the magnetic field is expected to affect the electromagnetic field in the structure and thereby to lead to these effects. Previous works have shown that even a weak magnetic field can significantly affect the spectrum of localized plasma waves. The dispersion curves of the localized modes at certain values of frequency and wave vector are anomalous, i.e. they possess a maximum where the transition from normal to anomalous happens, which depends on the value of the magnetic field. It is expected that the magnetic field will allow additional control of localized modes. Thus, an external magnetic field will enable tuning of the resonant wave propagation through a layered superconductor by the excitation of localized mode. This effect can be used to adjust the frequency of the source or receiver of terahertz radiation.
