A filed emission theory should be developed with the effect of a metal surface modification on field emission density and maximum breakdown voltage considered. Experimental research should be performed to study the effect of such a modification on electron emission current and high voltage breakdown probability. Dependence between electron emission current and maximum breakdown voltage, and an interelectrode distance should be studied on the modified samples. The field emission theory at high-vacuum breakdown with external magnetic field effect and relativistic effect considered should be developed.
