Registration Date 11-04-2022 Organization Institute of Cell Biology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description1 The aim of the work is to enhance the biological activity of berberine and other structurally similar alkaloids (sanguinarine and chelerythrine) derived from plants of tribe Chelidonieae. This aim will be achieved in two ways: 1) covalent attachment to the berberine molecule of fatty acid residues with different length of carbon chain and different number of unsaturated bonds in it; 2) non-covalent complexation of berberine and similar alkaloids with synthetic surfactant polymers with branched structure and anionic chains of polyethylene glycol. The use of the 1st approach will enhance the cytotoxic effect of berberine towards human tumor cells. The use of the 2nd approach will solve the problem of poor solubility of these alkaloids in water, as they are well soluble only in organic solvents. This will prepare a platform for preclinical studies of the biological activity of synthesized compounds in laboratory animals. popup.nrat_date 2024-12-09 Close
