Koloianidi, Кандидат сільськогосподарських наук Registration Date 16-01-2026 Organization State institution "Mykolaiv State Agricultural Research Station of the Institute of Climate-Oriented Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine" popup.description1 The project is based on the concept of developing a scientifically grounded weed control system in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) crops under the conditions of the Southern Steppe of Ukraine, using modern approaches of herbicide-based protection and digital monitoring. The working hypothesis assumes that the application of soil-applied and post-emergence herbicide combinations, including late treatments, taking into account selectivity and regional climatic characteristics, will allow effective weed suppression and improve the profitability of chickpea cultivation. It is expected that studying the performance of mixtures of graminicides and broadleaf herbicides, as well as identifying resistant weed biotypes, will enable the development of efficient crop protection schemes. The implementation of digital tools (NDVI, thermal imaging, spectral indices) will allow rapid assessment of the phytosanitary condition of fields and weed emergence waves and help optimize herbicide-based weed control systems. It is anticipated that studying the biological characteristics of chickpea (drought tolerance, nitrogen fixation) and the weed community composition in the region will support the development of highly effective selective weed control compositions to ensure stable yields even under moisture deficit and high temperatures, while preserving soil moisture, restoring soil fertility, and strengthening food security of the region and the state. Project objective: to develop a scientifically justified weed control system for chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) cultivation in the Southern Steppe of Ukraine that accounts for climatic and soil–ecological characteristics of the region, biological traits of the crop, and the weed flora, to ensure stable yield formation and efficient moisture use to enhance food security. popup.nrat_date 2026-01-16 Close
