The principal challenges derive from two of the most consequential factors of the current historical period: the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the state’s aspirations toward European integration. In particular, the Russian aggression has placed on the agenda the need to resolve criminal law issues related to liability for international crimes; to improve the provisions governing responsibility for crimes against the foundations of Ukraine’s national security; and to further develop the norms of the CC of Ukraine concerning liability for specific criminal offenses against human rights and freedoms, property, the economic system, the public administration system, as well as military and other criminal offenses. Moreover, the realities of armed conflict have raised the need to enhance the norms of several institutions within the General Part of the CC, including, the institutions of punishment, sentencing, release from punishment, and others. All these issues ought to become subjects of scholarly inquiry within the proposed research theme. Furthermore, Ukraine’s European integration ambitions necessitate the incorporation into national criminal law of the provisions of the European Union’s Acquis communautaire, as well as its approximation to the criminal laws of individual EU Member States. Consequently, scientific analysis is required to address issues of coherence between Ukraine’s criminal law and the state’s international legal obligations; questions regarding the sources of criminal law; the further development of the doctrine of the criminal offense and of circumstances precluding criminal liability; the system and new forms of criminal-law measures and their application etc. popup.nrat_date 2026-01-30 Close
