A correlation between pressure and density of structure defects with mechanical properties of sapphire has been found. A correlation of these defects with functional characteristics of medical sapphire products, mainly with mechanical properties: brittleness, strength, wear-proof, has been studied. Functional properties of such products as implants and microscalpels have been improved, dramatically smaller made have been the size of microscalpels for neurosurgery (thickness 0.17 mm).
