Subject to consideration are both similarities and distinctions between energy statistics and statistics of other areas with outlining of specific features associated with physical origin of energy products. Also, given are definitions of concepts and terminology applied in international energy statistics. Described is energy origin and the diversity of physical forms taken by energy sources, energy and other than energy flow, commercial and other than commercial energy sources, production and distribution of energy, deposits, energy consumption and wastes. Scrutinised is methodology to construct energy balance practised by the nations who report to statistical offices of UN and Eurostat, proposed are recommendations on compilation of balance formats so as to introduce them in official statistical reporting of Ukraine. There's a set of indicators on energy flows and sources designed for nee ds of compiling current statistical reports as well as energy balance. The project contains an analysis of official classification of energy products and services, as well as contextual analysis of sections and sub-sections of the classifier which cover fuels and energy nomenclature. Proposed are methodological provisions concerning the coefficients to convert kind indicators on fuels and energy into relevant proxies.
