Objectives - study of effect of condensation conditions (temperature, structural state of a substrate), composition of compounds and size on phase transitions, surface phenomena and phase formation in thin films. Methods. Films were deposited by vacuum condensation under different conditions. Phase composition and structure of films were studied by transmission electron microscopy and diffraction. It was shown, that interaction of a Ag-Au two-layer film with the liquid supercooled Ga films at ambient temperature caused the growth of phases, with the structure similar to those, that are observed in binary systems Ga-Ag, Ga-Au. Depending on temperature and substrate structural state in Ni/GaAs system are formed. Under orienting activity of a substrate in films the ordering occurs, that is not observed in solids. The dependence of crystallization temperature on the particle size is measured and the degree of the temperature hysteresis under melting and crystallization of small particles is found to decrease with particle size decreasing. The critical size of particles is found, at which the character of phase change varies. Its magnitude is close to the size of the short-range order region in a liquid phase. The method based on using condensed films of a variable content and state, enables one to get on one sample all or necessary part of the phase diagram that is readily observable.
