The subject of study is social essence and structure of democracy, the conditions and peculiarities of social democracy formation in the posttotalitasian period of development of Ukraine, connection of social democracy with public society and law-abiding state; the essence of political power social resources and their formation in Ukraine. The aim and main tasks of this research is to find out the essence and to reveal the features of social democracy and social resources of political and social democracy, their qualitative differences on the basis of deep elaborations of methodological approaches. To define the ways and mechanisms of social democracy formation as an essentially new status of society. To find out and characterize the sources of increasing the political power social resources under conditions of transition o f Ukraine to the democracy, to make proposals as to the accumulation of the democracy social potential and political power. The methods of the research in the structural - functional analysis that gives an opportunity to consider the democracy as a complicated phenomenon of social development, where structural elements interact and make conditions for the qualitative growth of society; analytical - integrative method, that includes processes of analysis and synthesis in the research of social phenomena. Theoretical - methodological approaches concerning the definition and characteristics of social democracy and political power social resources are grounded; the recommendations as to the pesspectives of development of democracy and political power social resources under conditions of modern Ukrainian society are suggested. The results of the research can be used for further researches in the aspect of de termining the general trend of country's development, as a theoretical basis for revealing the peculiarities of democratic formation of Ukrainian society, the improvement of power relations, and in the teaching work as well.
