It was demonstrated that catodic current, i.e.oxygen pumping to the reaction zone througth the electrolyte, causes no changes in the reaction rate of metane oxidation with respect to its open circuit value. Application of anodic current, i.e. oxygen pumping from the reaction zone through the electrolyte, increases the reaction rate. The incduced change in reaction rate was over two orders of magnitude hihger them the rate of electrocemical oxygen pumping from the reaction zone. So anodic polarization of the Ag electrode-catalyst was fond to cause non-Faradaic changes or the effect Non-Faradaic Electrochemical Modification of Catalytic Activity (NEMCA) in the methane oxidation rate.
