Highly efficient methods have been elaborated for growing large sapphire crystals in a low pressure gas atmosphere by the method of horizontally directed crystallization, group growth of sapphire stripes and rods by the Stepanov method, growth of optical sapphire crystals by the Czochralski method, mechanical treatment of large sapphire crystals and manufacture of optical windows of them (200-205 mm in diameter), preparation of cheap alumina raw material.
