The aim of the study is to collect linguistic materials, their sociolinguistic and culturological analysis; to discover trends and regularities of the linguistic innovations ("level-", synchronous-diachronic description); discourse analysis (mass media, political and advertising discourses). The sociolinguistic school was established at the Russian Linguistics Department, which is known both in Ukraine and abroad. As a result of the study 1) more than 40 articles are published; 2) the researches participated in 25 International, National and Regional conferences; 3) two dissertations are completed; two treatises are prepared for publication; 4) the Russian Linguistic Department prepared and held two international conferences - "Dynamism of Social Processes in Post-Soviet Society" and "Dialogue of Cultures from the Perspective of Education in Higher Education Institutions"; 5) the card ind ex of mass media, political, advertising, Internet discourses, modern poetry and prose, and modern spoken language was developed and analyzed. The introduction rate is determined by the new methodology of the language study work at the department: text-centered analysis of linguistic facts and units; priority of the functional aspect of speech; movement from the world linguistic picture to the linguistic norm. The professors give the following lectures and seminars: "Linguistic personality at the century boundary", "Language and Culture", "Public Relations", "Linguistic changes at the end of the 20th century".
