The IS technique allows to find the chemical compounds, which are formed in alloys during corrosion. The interaction of spectrally pure O2 with the surfaces of stainless steel and polycrystalline standards was investigated. The second enlarged edition of "Ionization Spectra Handbook" was published in the electronic format, which substantially decreases the measurement time and increases the precision of results. The simple form of the Handbook makes it accessible for use by general research community. The ES techniques can be made especially efficient if combined with simulations of initial stages of corrosion processes in the atmosphere of reactive gases. The most informative is the investigation of the active atmosph ere (oxygen, chlorine, etc.) influence on the sample under stress, when the influence of other factors can be neglected and the upper layer, which screens the presence of iron, excluded.
