Skovorody popup.description2 The object of the research is silkworm as a new highly sensitive biological indicator to determine insecticide traces in the environment. The aim of the research is to lay theoretical foundations for the requirements to test-objects of biological indication of insecticide traces with taking into account their heterogeneity, sensitivity to different groups of insecticides, technology of breeding, physiological state and reliability of usage. To experimentally test the theoretical assumptions, selection and genetic methods were used, and the silkworm culture with the required properties - high sensitivity to the smallest toxic traces - was created. The worked out methods found their practical application in estimating insecticide traces in mulberry leaves at industrial breeding areas on sericultural farms, in testing the viability of silkworm hybrids as well as in the process of teaching the courses "Ecology", "Ecological monitoring and biological indicating ecosystem state" for Masters, the special course "Silkworm breeding". Degree of innovation: universal biological indicator with a high level of sensitivity and technological use is suggested for the first time. Effectiveness: the method allows determining insecticide traces with the precision like that of chemical methods (and even higher) and at the cost by 3-5 times lower. The field of application: sericulture, selection of viable silkworm, educational process at universities and agricultural educational establishments.
