Aim - extension and improvement of theoretical concepts about the properties of hydrophobic sorbents which possess hydrophilic surface centrers. Methods - microcalorimetry, chromatography, quantum chemical methods. Main results - the interaction of water molecules with the surface of hydrophobic materials is studied. It is shown that the adsorption of water at such surfaces takes place at separate sites. The adsorption of water molecules takes place at residual hydrophilic surface centres. The chromatographic method for the estimation of the number of such centres are shown to exist in the structure of natural zeolites.
