The Dictionary is a manual for distribution of the population according to educational level in coding answers to the inquiry 10 of the 2001 Ukrainian census named "Education". The content and terminology of the Dictionary are based on the Ukrainian active legislation on the problem of education. In the part concerning educational establishments functioned up to 1990, this dictionary is grounded on the similar dictionary published for the 1989 census of the former Soviet Union population. Systematic dictionary includes names of Ukrainian educational institutions, which grant certificates of education according to determined level and the names of educational establishments of other countries where Ukrainian citizens had received education until 1990. In the last case the use of similar dictionaries of previous censuses is advisable. In each section kinds of education are united in groups and by types. Thus, section "Higher Education" contains three groups: institutions of higher education of III-IVlevels of accreditation, institutions of higher education of II level and those of I level of accreditation. In the first group universities, academies, institutes, conservatories, graduate courses, colleges, etc. are presented. The second group contains colleges and other educational establishments accredited on this level, and the third group includes technical, pedagogical and medical colleges accredited in accordance with this level. The other groups of educational establishments may be shown by the similar scheme. Section "vocational training" presents only those types of main educational institutions that give qualification "skilled worker".
