Objectives: To determine the role of the "background" benign diseases of the thyroid gland in thyroid cancer development for working out therapeutic recommendations in benign and combined thyroid pathology. Results and novelty: New information about the peculiarities (hormonal, immunological, morphological) of development and course of thyroid cancer against a background of thyroid benign pathology was obtained. They were used to study the characteristics of the clinical course of the disease. For the first time I-131 MIBG was used in patients with medullar thyroid cancer. Three new methods of treatment and prevention of thyroid cancer were worked out. Degree of introduction: 14 articles and 9 abstracts were published, 17 reports were made, 2 patents were obtained, 1 application for invention was sent to Institute of Industrial Property, the permission to publication of methodological recommendations "The use of I-131 metaiodine benzyl guanidine in treatment of APUDomas" was given. Fields of application: medicine, medical radiology, oncology hospitals, diagnostic centers. Significance of the work: introduction into the practice of the developed methods of treatment and prevention of thyroid cancer will improve the quality of life in the patients as well as increase the number of the cured patients.
