The review and materials for the National report on the state of environment dealing with chemical features of the surface waters of Ukraine in 1999, 2000 and 2001 were prepared. Maps of distribution in the surface waters the various classes of chemical components were made. Ecological assessment of Ukraine waters quality was executed and the basic tendencies of its change were shown for the period 1995-2000. Zoning of Ukraine territory on quality of the surface waters has been carried out. The most polluted rivers and lengths of the rivers are shown. The influence of the basic natural factors on formation of river waters chemical composition is studied. The chemical discharges of the main ions, nutrients and heavy metals with waters of Dnieper, Danube and Southern Bug are calculated. The influence of diffusion sources of pollution and large cities of Ukraine on the water quality was evaluated.
