Spontaneous and induced with mutagens variability of antibiotic production by these strains has been studied and system for strain selection using mutations of resistance to antibiotics was developed. Landomycin E gene biosynthetic cluster has been cloned and partially sequenced, functions of the 27 genes within the cluster was determined. Efficient system for plasmid DNA conjugal transfer from E.coli to Streptomyces strains has been developed. Heterologous expression of landomycin E biosynthetic genes has been demonstrated. Method for obtaining of S.peucetius subsp.caesius strains with increased doxorubicin production and ability to convert daunorubicin into doxorubicin was developed, protected by patent.
