The temperature-spectral-baric diagrams of the isotropic state are built. The mesoscopic constitutive relation that describes the crystal optics of incommensurately modulated phases is obtained. The microscopic model describing the optical response of the modulated medium is suggested. The null-polarimetric technique for determining the main parameters of phase retardation plates is developed and substantiated. The new crystal optical method for measuring temperature is grounded, which is based on the analysis of the birefringence sign inversion.
