The absorption and photo-galvanic current spectra of CdTe crystals and the substitution-type solid solutions Cd1-xHgxTe (x < 0.1) doped with vanadium and titanium ions are studied for different crystallographic directions. The deposition depths for the doping ions within the forbidden gap are determined. The mechanisms for photo-ionization of the doping ions are revealed. It is shown that the photo-ionization energy for the doping ions changes while transiting from the CdTe crystals towards the solid solutions Cd1-xHgxTe (x < 0.1). This demonstrates a possibility for controlling the photo-sensitivity region of photo-refractive crystals. The role of the intrinsic structural defects in the processes of compensation for the doping ion charge in the course of photo-ionization (re-charging) is studied. The dependence of the evolutionof optical transparency of the crystals upon the static and dynamic disordering of the crystalline lattice is investigated. The study of thermo-activation processes has enabled us to re-construct the structure of energy levels for the capturing centers in the PbWO4 crystal.
