Objective: working out a system of medical and preventive measures for schoolchildren to ensure mature attitude to there health and to develop practical knowledge of its active formation. Methods: a questionnaire for defining schoolchildren needs in special impact forming their health and way of life (developed together with Saskatchewan University, Ukrainian-Canadian project "Youth for health"), screening tests of health state and the level of physical fitness, copying of primary medical and pedagogical documentation, combination of psychological testing (Cattell, Gilles and Budassi tests; methods of orientation toward educational activity and toward health (Institute of Children and Adolescents Health Protection of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine); Alexandrova's methods). Theoretical and practical results, novelty: Age and sex peculiarities concerning formation of practical skills of healthy way of life and harmful habits spreading among schoolchildren were defined. Interrelation between formation of harmful habits and deformations of personality development in schoolchildren was proved. The influence of the level of socio-psychological adaptation on the initiation of smoking among teenagers as well as the impact of emotional instability and the lack of skills in regulation of individual behavior on the use of alcohol by teenagers were established. Prevalence of harmful habits among the schoolchildren is not correlated with diagnosed chronic diseases. Current patterns of physical development of school age children and adolescents were shown. The risk group as regards alcohol addiction was determined its reliability factors being the low level of the teenage physical fitness and their striving to a higher social status among their classmates. Regional standards of urban schoolchildren development were worked out. A system of active health forming in schoolchildren under the conditions of institutions of general education by means of harmonizing their physical development, spreading the skills of healthy way of life and mature attitude to forming and preserving their health was proposed Effectiveness: improvement of health quality in schoolchildren and forming the skills of healthy way of life.
