Potebnja Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2 During 1998 - 2002 years the Department of general Slavic studies and East Slavic languages fulfilled the project "The Slavic vocabulary: etymology, accentology, word-building". It consist of six subtopics, namely 1) etymology and lexicology of Slavic vocabulary; 2) scientific editing of sixth volume of "Etymological Dictionary of Ukrainian"; 3) comparative lexicography of Slavic languages; 4) history of Ukrainian accent; 5) historical word-building; 6) preparation of scientific papers to international congresses. Etymological and accentological researches of Slavic vocabulary and compiling of dictionaries have become traditional for the Department. They don't duplicate subjects the Institute of the Ukrainian Language deals with. Within fulfillment of the project four monographs and two dictionaries have been published. In general, 43 reports at international and all-Ukrainian forums, conferences, meetings, and discussions have been delivered. The department has co-organized some of them.
