Research goal - to investigate and develop distance education system in agricultural higher education institutions, and to investigate (adapt) computer technologies to support distance education system. Research method - analysis of the experience of introduction of distance education by the leading education institutions of the world; statistical research methods; analysis and study of computer technologies and software that are applied in distance education system. The research work states basic concepts of distance education in agricultural higher education institutions. It presents results of the research on providing population with means for organization of distance education. The research shows that to organize distance education it is expedient to apply both consulting (case) and network (electronic) teaching model. The system information flows were considered. The models of education manager's, study course author', tutor's,and students' work were defined. According to these models IBM software Lotus LearningSpace v5.0 was selected as a software platform for providing education infrastructure. The model of organization of distance education process, structure of computer support for education process, methodical recommendations for education process participants' work, standard provisions and draft breakdown of costs for creation of distance education center were developed.
