Method of computer simulation of conoscopic patterns was proposed and experimentally approbated. For optimization of electrooptical characteristics of light modulator we proposed its constructive fulfilment as two-layered structure that allows essentially increase the contrast and the depth of modulation at the same voltage value of control signal. The methods of electrooptical cells testing by optical conoscopy was developed. Full matrices of piezooptical and electrooptical coefficients of propionates crystals were determined.
