Object of the research: Geological environment, underwater in the Chornobyl NPP location area, ecologic safety of the ChNPP facilities. Objective: Ecologic assessment of the current underwater condition and the safety of the ChNPP facilities. Study of the geological environment condition and the hydrogeologic conditions at the ChNPP location area, development of the mathematical model of underwater filtration at the ChNPP location area. Study of underwater condition and progress of contamination. Practically all the sources, associates with the geological and geomorphologic characteristics of the Chornobyl NPP location area, available to the moment the current research started, were collected and studied. That enabled the development of a three-dimensional geological model of the territory under study. Ecologically significant failures (washouts) were revealed at this territory in the impervious geological strata, dividing pressure and free-flow underwater. Basic hydrogeologic characteristics of the adjacent area and the ChNPP site territory were studied. Parametric data base aimed at hydrogeologic modeling was developed. The mathematical model of underwater filtration for the hydrogeologic conditions of the area the ChNPP is located and the adjacent territories was developed. To create the model the computer program Visual Modflow 2.71 was used, which includes the following computation modules Modflow, Modpath and MT96. The model have demonstrated an effective correlation of design and experimental data. It can be used to implement the design activities associated with the ChNPP Units decommissioning and the Unit Shelter transformation. There was conduced a research of radioactive and chemical contamination of underwater at the ChNPP site, caused by the radionuclides migration from the technogenic layer of soil, contaminated during the accident of the year 1986. Estimates of migration speed demonstrate an absents of the justifiedthreat for the surface water bodies (Prypyat river). The monitoring results of underwater condition confirm the current ecologic safety of the facilities and equipment of the ChNPP Units 1-3.
