It has found out that sulphate-ion is the main adverse impurity for electrolysis. Highly dehydrated carnallite has been obtained, which is compositionally (MgO=0.1-0.2%; sulphate-ion - ~ 0.035%) suitable for usage in the process of magnesium metal production by electrolysis. Conditions have been developed for highly dehydrated carnallite transportation as applied to the equipment employed in these processes.
