Objective: To develop a system of organizational and prophylactic steps aimed at improving mental health and quality of life of children and adolescents , taking into consideration the influence of biologic, psychologic and social factors. Methods: common clinical, medico-socio-psychologic questioning and interviewing children and their parents, clinico-psychopathologic and experimental psychologic methods (A. Lichko's pathocharacterologic diagnostic questionnaire for teen-agers, the Toulouse-Pieronne test and Luscher's test of colour choice), and retrospective analysis of case histories.Theoretical and practical results and novelty. The state of mental and psychologic health of the 1-st to 11-th form schoolchildren from urban and rural regions was studied. The existence of differences in the structure of neurotic and behavioural disorders in urban and rural schoolchildren was established. Prognostically significant socio-psychologic and biologic factors affecting formation of mental health in schoolchildren were singled out. Pathomorphosis of clinico-psychopathologic features in the course of mental disorders in children and adolescents in present-day socium was traced. A model of medico-psychologic assistance to children with boundary mental disorders conditions under school was proposed and tested. The necessity of improving the system of psychoprophylaxis at general education institutions was substantiated. Effectivity: preventing mental disorders formation in schoolchildren of urban and rural regions. Field of application: children's psychiatry, pediatrics, school medicine.
