Objectives - to determine the degree of influence of compliance of weld joints on the stress-strained state of welded steelwork. Test methods: theoretical - on the basis of advancements in the compound rod theory taking into account compliance of interlayer bonds, experimental - employed in determination of weld joint stiffness factor values. Apparatus - strain gauges, an automatic strain meter, dial indicators. Theoretical results - analytical and numerical procedures for analysis of stress-strained state of two- and three-layer compound rods with both continuous and intermittent distributed bonds have been developed and the corresponding programs for computer-aided calculations by these procedures have been compiled. Practical results - these procedures will enable to design welded steel girders, rods, welded angle joints allowing for compliance of weld joints. The advantage of this innovation lies in the development of more accurate and reliable algorithms for welded steelwork design, as well as more substantial approach to engineering weld joints: more precise determination of stress concentration factors in weld joints will enable to use intermittent welds.
