A work аim is the theoretical and experimental study of preconditions of crack-formation at the friction contact of rough metallic surfaces in the conditions of dry friction and development of recommendations to reduction the intensity of wear. The research methods are test by dry and boundary friction of steels, optical and electronic microscopy, small-angle sciagraphy, stereofractography of friction surfaces, micromechanics tests, methods of mathematical design. The report deals with analysis of influencing of specific forces of friction, speeds of sliding on wear of steels and cast-irons, properties and structural features of surfaces of friction and subsuperficial layers are resulted, developments of technological bases of the superficial strengthening, causing of diffusive and some other coatings. It is shown on the basis of dislocation models of crack-formation, that on occasion the wear can be examined as a process of origin and development of thecracks conditioned by localization of tensions.
