Med. Sci Ukraine popup.description2 Object: adult and old Wistar rats. Aim: to study the mechanisms of life span prolonging effect of long-term stimulation of lateral hypothalamic area in old rats. Methods: stereotaxic electrode implantation, electro stimulation of hypothalamic structures, EEG registration, conditioning, measuring of oxygen consumption, rectal temperature, agility, epinephrine, norepinephrine, thyroxin, testosterone, corticosterone and insulin level in serum, dopamine concentration in striatum, SOD catalase activity in lever and brain, modeling of diabetes. Scientific and practical results: it is found out that lateral hypothalamic area stimulation results in reduction of metabolic rate, rectal temperature and food intake, increasing of antioxidant defence, improving of immunological functions, hormonal status, central regulation of locomotion, motor performance and memory, weakening of experimental diabetes development. Novelty: some mechanisms of geroprotective effect of long-term stimulation of lateral hypothalamic area in old rats are elucidated. Effectivity: obtained results extend imagination of possible mechanisms of life span prolongation and allow to project new experimental approaches to improvement of survival of old rats. Fields of application: gerontology, physiology. Product Description popup.authors popup.nrat_date 2020-04-02 Close
