The subject of the research is the development processes of the Ukrainian art criticism. The purpose of the work is to slow the national development peculiarities and the methodology of the Ukrainian art criticism in the context of the European art criticism of the second half of the XIX-th - XX-th centuries. Monographs, publications in the periodicals on the problems of the history, theory and art criticism were systematized. It was done by studying of theoretical sources, periodicals, manuscripts, archives at the scientific libraries of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kyiv and Lviv National Universities and internet. The main processes and the development chronology of art criticism in Ukraine were described and grounded; their national peculiarities, accordance to the European criteria of theoretical comprehension and practical estimation of art phenomena and works of art were proved; stage, methodologically important work of the home art critics of the last quarter of the XIX-th - XX-th centuries were revealed and studied; their comparative analysis with conceptually important works of the leading European schools of art criticism was made; the manuscripts of the reading - book of theoretical works of Ukrainian art historians and theorists and the project of the art critic reference book were prepared. To solve tasks and to reach the main purpose the subject complex approach to the solution of scientific, humanistic problems was cased. Historical, chronological and comparative menthols of the research, literary and artistic analysis, the means of scientific systematization and catalogue compiling were used. The results and main stages of the research confirmed the historical regularity, continuity and the national peculiarities of the processes of origin, formation and development of Ukrainian art criticism and artistic critic. Theoretical results consist in researching of the main processes and defining the chronological development of art criticism in Ukraine. Besides the main mechanism and problems of formation of native art critic thought of the second half of the XIX-th - XX-th centuries. The practical value of the results of the scientific research work is determined by reality of their use to solve theoretical tasks in the branch of the history of arts, art criticism, aesthetics. The results are useful for applying in museum, history of literature, bibliography and also for compiling of scientific Catalogues, reference books, object and nominal indexes.
