The origins of reactive power in nonlinear circuits with distorted currents are investigated. The estimation of influence of the voltage deviations, distortion, unbalance and fluctuations on the electrical equipment is carried out. The impact of reactive power on electromagnetic processes in electrical networks is estimated. The methods of the power quality indices minimizing at the presence of highly varying and nonlinear loads are developed. The techniques and facilities for reactive power compensation in the networks with specific loads allowing to obtain the minimum of power losses in supplying network are also developed.
