Primary documents (record cards and acco-unts) from treatment-and-prophylaxis institutions. Objective: to scientifically ground and to develop recommendations on improving health service organization for children in the course of reforming the first medico-sanitary care on the principles of FM. Methods: medico-statistical and analytical. Theoretical and practical results: the organizational system of providing medical care for children on the principles of FM in 5 districts of Kharkiv region, it was established that ingroup or individual care providing by family doctors (FD)-pediatricians was most acceptable. The character of FM personnel, the level of their professionalism and professional load were defined. The necessity of upgrading FD professional training, starting from medical institutes, was stated. There were determined the major aspects of FD activity in rendering medical carefor children, such as vaccination, home nursing and treatment of acute respiratory and infec-tious diseases. Specialized medical assistance practically was not provided by FD, divergence of diagnoses made by FD and by specialists was revealed in 35 % of cases. There was substantiated the necessity of preserving the posts of pediat-ricians and highly specialized professionals at pediatric central district hospitals. During the 3 years of the FM practice the number of patients' visits increased reliably 1,6 times. Recommendations as to upgrading the quality of medical care for children provided by FD were developed. Novelty: there was formulated a reliable appraisal of medical care organization for children in rural regions on the principles of FM and were defined the factors, hindering the development of such kind of medical care. Effectiveness: upgrading the quality of medical care providing for children on the principles of FM. Application field: children and adolescents health care and family medicine.
