The aim of the work was the establishement of relationship between composition, structure and properties of firstly synthesized compounds. The methods of investigation were the arc melting and heat treatment for the preparation of alloys; X-ray phase and microstructural analyses for the determination of the unit cell parameters, determination of homogeneity ranges of compounds; local X-ray spectral analyis for the determination of quantitative and qualitative composition of alloys and single crystals; the differential thermal analysis for investigation of temperature of polymorphic transformation of phases; the studying of electrical and magnetic properties. At first time the character of interaction of the components in 43 multicomponent systems RE-М-Х, where REis a rare earth metals, М is a transition metals, Х are Al,Si,Ge,Sn,Sb,Bi, in complete concentration region was studied; the corresponding isothermal sections of phase diagrams were constructed. In investigated systems the formation of 263 new intermetallic compounds were established; 21 compounds belong to the new structure types (Sm3Ga9Ge, Pr(Ni,Al,Ge)2-x, Ce5Co4Ge13, Pr3Co2Ge7, Sm4(Ga1-хGeх)10 (х=0.5-0.7), etc.). The borders of solid solutions based on binary and homogeneity regions of ternary phases were established. For the majority of synthesized compounds the dependences of magnetic sucseptibility, specific resistance and thermopower vs. temperature and magnetization vs. magnetic field were investigated; the specific resistance and thermopower were measured. The obtained results can be useful during the development of new metallic materials based on intermetallic compounds and also as a hand-book material for the specialists who are working in the branch of materials science, inorganic and physical chemistry, solid state chemistry.
