Potebnja Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2 During January 2001 - December 2004 Department of General Linguistics has been exploring the problem of language development in different aspects. The research was carried out in the following fields: language development typology in its quantitative and qualitative dimension; 2) typological and conceptual analysis of the main culture terms in their development; 3) typology of dynamic correlation between linguistic patterns and patterns of thinking; 4) typology of primeval language evolution; 5) typology of language contact and their significance for language formation and development; 6) writing articles and papers for presentation at international and national congresses and conferences. While implementing the project 60 articles on the researched items were published including 19 in the foreign editions. The monograph 'Language development typology" has been prepared for publication. 29 papers on the topics related to the research were presented at international and national conferences and gatherings. On the basis of the complex approach to the analysis, typological characteristics relevant for language development both in the remote historical periods and the situation nowadays were stated.
