Aim of the study: To study changes in indices of natural and acquired immunity on pancreatic Langerhans islet level and on whole body level, which precede appearance of clinical symptoms of IDDM in children. Methods of investigations and equipment: Determination of diabetesassociated antibodies, content of different immunophenotype lymphocytes, their electron microscopy, level of cyto- and chemokins and thymic hormone. Results and their novelty: New evidence has been obtained, suggesting major immune disturbances in children with family history of IDDM and current autoimmune process in Langerhans islets, that precede development of clinical phase of IDDM, which may be used to develop new methods of IDDM prevention and blocking beta-cell destruction.
