Aim of the work - to create and give to the State Variety Testing an early ripening variety of shallot. Method of investigations - individual-mass selection, clone selection. In the result of conducted breeding work there is created a new variety of shallot - Lira. It is an early-ripening variety, the vegetative period is 72-74 days. It grows simultaneously. By the yield of mature onion it tops the standard by 106 %, of bunch-onion - by 196 %. The keeping quality for 8 month's of storage is 94 %. 1,3-1.5 % of plants bolt. The variety is for universal usage, tolerant to downy mildew. It is recommended for the Steppe and the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine.
