The goal of the present work is the application of the principles and fundamental laws of thermodynamics to the analysis of economic processes. The methods used are based on the principles of thermodynamics of irreversible processes, on the theory of dynamic systems with variable structure, and on the statistical analysis. Economic processes are viewed from positions of thermodynamics. Money is considered as a certain form of virtual energy, possessing features similar to those of entropy. The dependence of specific entropy of money on the degree of its integrity is examined. The efficiency of money is shown to be determined by its entropy. The relationship between the configuration of the income distribution function and the state of the economy is analyzed. The slope of this function (competition gradient) within the limits of 0.3-0.5 is characteristic of developed countries. The distribution of the potential economic power between different strata of society has a maximum, corresponding to the stratum with the highest aggregate economic potential. As the value of the competition gradient goes down, the maximum shifts towards the less rich strata. The diagram of distribution of all countries of the world according to their economic level is obtained. The overall civilization flow of economic development has а speed of about 4.5% per year.
