Potebnya Institute of Linguistics of National Academy of Sciences has been carrying out the research programme 'Comparative historical and typological research of Slavic languages'. It consisted of 6 interrelated subtopics: 'Evolution of Lexical System of Slavic Languages from Typological Prospective', 'Historical Development of Lexical Systems of Slavic Languages', 'Sociolinguistic Changes Related to Political Changes in Slavic countries', 'Russian and Ukrainian Linguistic Relations. History and Nowadays', 'German-Baltic-Slavic Common Lexical Heritage', 'Morphemics and Inflexion of Modern Ukrainian as a Subject for Confrontative and Typological Study'. The conducted study resulted in significant outcomes, namely, Slavic languages became a subject of a broad research from comparative historical and typological prospective, which allowed to make several theoretical statements of great value for Slavic languages historical development understanding, their relations with other languages, modern processes that take place in Slavic languages, as well as general linguistics. The research results enable more precise definition of emerging and evolution of Ukrainian, insights into different linguistic and extra linguistic factors that impact its history and modern situation, several dictionary and text books preparation, which are to help Ukrainian citizens to improve their level of Ukrainian. While carrying out the study, researchers have been writing articles and papers for international conferences and symposia. The research outcomes are presented in 4 monographs, 3 text books, 9 dictionaries, 1 book of collected articles, 1 educational book, 150 articles, including 18 articles abroad.
