It is shown that the modifying hydrophobic coverings affected by adsorbed water exhibit lability. The gas chromatographic method is shown to be the promising one for the identification of hydrophilic active centres at the surface of carbon sorbents, and for the calculation of the heats of interaction of small polar molecules with these centres. The state of molecules adsorbed at the modified kaolinite samples is studied. The cluster character of water molecules adsorption near the residual hydrophilic centres at hydrophobic adsorbents surface is shown. The number of water molecules which constitute cluster is determined. The adsorption isotherm equation which generalises the Langmuir equation assuming cluster adsorption of several interacting molecules at one centre is proposed.
