More than 600 genetically-modified strains of nodule bacteria Sinorhizobium meliloti, Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. trifolii, Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. viciae were obtained by means of transposon mutagenesis. Inoculation of plants with transposants named above has resulted in vegetative mass yield increase of alfalfa and clover on 9,5 - 17% and pea grain yield on 12 - 17% comparing to productive (standard) strains. Plasmid pSUP2021 bearing Tn5 can be used also for transposon mutagenesis in nodule bacteria of lupine Bradyrhizobium sp. (Lupinus) and soy-beans Bradyrhizobium japonicum.
