Geological engineering survey. popup.stage_title Head Kozlov Konstantin, Registration Date 27-04-2007 Organization Ukrainian Scientific Research and Disign Institute for Industrial Technology popup.description2 The subject of the research is tailings pond "Shch" that belongs to State Enterprise "Eastern Mining and Concentration Integrated Works" and intended for uranium ore milling waste storage. The objective of the research effort was to reveal the changes in the tailings pond condition, natural and anthropogenic conditions at the adjacent territory; to analyze the features and tendencies of those changes since the comprehensive engineering surveys were initiated for the tailings pond capacity expansion project in 1996-97, as well as to simulate the mathematical model of hydro-geological conditions required for further prediction of the environmental impact of the tailings pond. The research technique is engineering-geological survey, hydro-geological modelling. The engineering-geological survey included the complex of researches consisted of topog-raphical works and land measuring, engineering-geological, hydro-geological survey supported by experimental penetration and laboratory tests. The topographicalworks and land measuring consisted in correction of topographical plans in scale of 1:2000 at the area of 360 hectares, measurement of water depths in settling pools, calculations of the settling pools capacities at the old and new tailings ponds. During engineering-geological survey, the fact of natural soil consolidation in the body of the protecting structures was acknowledged. There were no appearances of unfavorable engineering-geological processes on the slopes of the structures that could affect the tailings pond operation safety. In connection with underground water level rise and soil watering, soil conditions on subsidence at the adjacent territory changed from the second type into the first one. Hydro-geological conditions of the tailings pond area are characterized with under-ground water level rise close to the tailings pond contour by 0.04-5.88 m. The underground water level in the bodies of the protecting structures has risen by 0.43-7.27 m. Chemical and radionuclide composition of the underground water for the last 10 years has not change largely and is affected by slime water penetration from the tailings pond. From the research performed, the mathematical model of the hydro-geological condition in the area of the tailings pond was simu-lated that allows to make predictions about the changes which take place or can take place under impact of the tailings pond after its expansion.5635 Product Description popup.authors popup.nrat_date 2020-04-02 Close
