A database with temperature dependences of the thermophysical properties of structural and tooling materials has been set up. A new physical concept on the mechanisms of failure and heat liberation in the surface zones of the ground material has been suggested. Requirements have been formulated to grinding conditions to increase grinding efficiency. Mathematical modeling methods have been used to analyse the heat and mechanical processes involved in grinding. The results can be used in machine building.
