Mathematical models for predicting statistical properties of the radioactive contamination fields were developed. Parameters of the statistical distributions of radiation quantities were calculated for different distances between control points and emission source and for different observation time intervals. Statistical criteria were formulated and a methodology for evaluating the efficiency of the radiation monitoring was developed.
