Study methods: physical-chemical, microbiological, toxicological, statistical. It was demonstrated that PHMG salts were inferior to the traditional flocculants by the effect of the purification from chemical pollutants, and unlike to them showed a high antimicrobial effect and could be used according this criterion instead of chlorine in the technology of drinking water preparation for the exclusion of the production of carcinogenic chlorine-organic compounds. Hygienic regulations and recommendations for safe use of PHMG salts as flocculants (0,5-0,3 mg/dm3) in the technology for drinking water preparation from the surface water basins were rationalized.
