V. Gromaschevskyi Institute of Epidemiology and Infections Diseases popup.description2 The data obtained permitted the identification of new anti-HIV preparations: chlorofiden, mebifon, broteofin; we studied also the mechanism of anti-HIV effects for two preparations of plant origin - proteflazid and altabor, their mechanism being due to revertase activity inhibition. We registered a new antiviral preparation, lectivir, its CD50, ED50, and IC values permitting to place them among chemiotherapeutic drugs of high effectiveness. Our experiments show lectivir to be a highly effective preparation in prevention and treatment of HIV-infection as well as of herpetic and hepatitis C infection. The action mechanism of this preparation is due to the inhibition of adsorption mechanism and cell-virus fusion process which is carried out during interactions between leptovir sialospecific glycoconjugates and NaNa?2,3-Gal structures on viral surface components. A pilot laboratory regulative documents were prepared to obtain mimicrins from culture media of different microorganisms. New mimicrin preparations of bacterial, fungal, and probiotic origin were isolated. Mimicrins isolated from bacteria, bacterial toxins, and IgG light chain fragments as well as insect and reptilian toxins were shown to share similar epitopes with peptides of HIV-1 subtype B, gp120, gag, and viruses of rabies, hepatitis C, papilloma type 16, and herpetic viruses. The experiments showed bacterial mimicrins to inhibit strongly the reproduction of HIV-1 and bacteria. It was demonstrated that the autoschizis, a new type of cell necrosis, is realized not only in tumor cells but also in cells infected by viruses (by HIV, hepatitis C virus, and herpetic viruses). A clinical investigation of HIV-infected patients was also carried out. Patients with III and IV stages of this disease become victims of a lot of opportunistic infections including tuberculosis, fungal infections, hepatitis C, and herpetic infections.
